James Engineering’s design and engineering skills extend beyond the demands of heavy industry into the fields of specialist and 1 off custom built architectural projects. In the modern era of limited time and resources we have provided a timely and unique solution for a variety of situations and are regularly visited by architectural students/design groups seeking an alternative to in-situ construction without sacrificing structural longevity and modern function/sustainability

One example of James Engineering’s design expertise is the Koko display unit at West End in Brisbane. In 2004 the Stockland Group, a national land/housing/unit developer obtained approval to proceed with the construction of an upmarket 85 unit complex. As is standard for these types of projects, a display unit was required to allow the units to be sold “off the plan”, however the size of the proposed display and the level of finish required meant that the traditional in-situ construction would be costly and involve a lengthy construction period, neither of which were acceptable to the client.

Having sought out and rejected the “donga” and kit home type contractors, the project manager for Stockland approached James Engineering based on an industry referral -The end result was the design fabrication and delivery to site in what was thought to be an impossible time frame, of a remarkable 4 module 2 storey prefabricated display unit which mirrored exactly the level and quality of finish Stockland wished to portray to their potential clients. This unit can be disassembled and re-used/refitted for future projects
